Hot Sliver Companies To Own For 2014

An Ambassador taxi on the streets during monsoon rain in Kolkata.

HONG KONG (CNNMoney) Hindustan Motors has suspended production of its iconic Ambassador model amid growing financial pressure and low demand for the car.

Once the vehicle of choice for Indian politicians and bureaucrats, the Ambassador's design was borrowed from Britain's Morris Oxford. The car's look hasn't changed much since the 1950's, making it one of the most enduring sights on India's streets.

While the car's popularity has diminished greatly in recent years, the Ambassador is still used today as a taxi in several Indian cities including Kolkata. Last year, the Ambassador was named world's best taxi by the popular BBC show Top Gear.

The suspension of work at Hindustan Motors' Uttarpara production facility, where the Ambassador is built, has thrown the model's future into doubt. Only a few thousand of the cars are sold each year.

Radio One (ROIAK) is a multimedia company that primarily targets African-American and urban consumers. This stock closed up 5.8% to $2.35 in Thursday's trading session.

    Thursday's Range: $2.21-$2.40

    52-Week Range: $0.68-$2.66

    Thursday's Volume: 258,000

    Three-Month Average Volume: 112,595

From a technical perspective, ROIAK ripped higher here back above its 50-day moving average of $2.27 with above-average volume. This stock recently formed a triple bottom chart pattern at $2.10, $2.11 and $2.07. Following that bottom, shares of ROIAK have started bounce sharply higher and move within range of triggering a major breakout trade. That trade will hit if ROIAK can manage to take out some near-term overhead resistance levels at $2.46 to its 52-week high at $2.66 with high volume.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in ROIAK as long as it's trending above some near-term support levels at $2.10 to $2.07 and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that hits near or above 112,595 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then ROIAK will set up to enter new 52-week-high territory above $2.66, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that breakout are $3 to $4.

Of course, a great bet also involves many risks. Even though LCD technology became very popular in these last few years, both in TV screens and computer monitors, we should never miss the fact that technological markets are often exposed to products becoming obsolete due to the development of new, more efficient technology. Without going any further, it easy to recall the plasma display panel (PDP) fiasco, an apparently promising market in the 1990s and early 2000s but quickly replaced by LCDs (by 2008 LCDs sell 21.1 million units, almost 10 times PDP sales on the same year). Even Panasonic Corporation (PCRFF) announced it will interrupt production of PDP on 2014.
