Forward Air Corporation operates in two segments: Forward Air, Inc. (Forward Air) and Forward Air Solutions, Inc. (FASI). Through the Company's Forward Air segment, it is a provider of time-definite surface transportation and related logistics services to the North American deferred air freight market. It offers its customers local pick-up and delivery (Forward Air Complete) and scheduled surface transportation of cargo. The Company operates direct terminal-to-terminal services and regional overnight service between terminals where justified by freight volumes. It provides regional overnight service to the markets within its network. Direct shipments also reduce the likelihood of damage because of reduced handling and sorting of the freight.     As the Fed's stimulus policy changes, there will be an impact on firms with large investments, particularly in bonds. For insurers, this could pose a problem going forward since investment income is an essential part of their business operations. During its first-quarter earnings call, Allstate (NYSE: ALL  ) disclosed that it had altered its investing plan in order to acclimate to the current low-interest-rate environment, though it would be a sacrifice of higher returns later on. This type of change was not widely used, as insurers would have to make a series of adjustments should interest rates rise at a later time. Either way, investors should be aware of such adjustments as the environment transitions.

    Citi had some good news, settling up with insurer Allstate (NYSE: ALL  ) over some cruddy MBSes, in a "mutually agreeable" manner, according to Bloomberg. JPMorgan and Wells likely felt pretty smug as Fannie Mae plummeted this week, along with Freddie Mac -- less than one week after telling Bloomberg�how it has been squeezing mortgage originators out of profits by cutting the banks out of the lucrative securitization process.

    Insurance operating income jumped 28% compared to 2012, while investment income was relatively flat. The company has been working on both its underwriting practices and risk selection. And though the flat nature of its investment income may seem disappointing, all of the players in the insurance market have been dealing with pressure from the low interest rates. So the investment income generated by AIG is sign of strength in a difficult environment, with both positive returns from higher securities values and alternative investments. Competitor Allstate (NYSE: ALL  ) noted in its earnings report Wednesday that it was moving into more cash-generating investments that would ultimately lead to lower investment income in the future. AIG hasn't made the same move, and may end up benefiting from the decision to hold firm.

Japanese shares dropped, with the Nikkei 225 (NKY) Stock Average falling from its highest since July 2008, as the yen gained against the dollar and investors await major earnings reports this week.

Sony Corp. (6758), which gets nearly 20 percent of its sales from the U.S., fell 0.6 percent. Yamada Denki Co. dropped 4.8 percent after the electronics retailer missed its profit forecast by 35 percent. Oki Electric Industry Co. surged 21 percent after the Nikkei newspaper said operating profit doubled at the maker of ATMs. Komatsu Ltd., a machinery maker that gets 17 percent of its sales in China, reversed gains after Chinese manufacturing data fell short of estimates.

The Nikkei 225 lost 0.3 percent to 13,529.65 at the close in Tokyo. The Topix Index lost 0.2 percent to 1,143.78, with about three stocks gaining for every two that fell on the 1,698- member index.

When corn prices go up, farmers tend to make more money, and they spend that money on new equipment from Deere and other firms. That trade will hit if TITN manages to take out some near-term overhead resistance at $18.60 and then once it takes out its 50-day at $18.91 with high volume.

    Traders should now look for long-biased trades in TITN as long as it's trending above that low at $15.89 and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that hits near or above 366,688 shares. If that breakout hits soon, then TITN will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $21 to its 200-day moving average at $23.43 a share.

Manufactured product lines include a range of cutting chain, chain saw guide bars, and cutting chain drive sprockets used on portable gasoline and electric chain saws and on mechanical timber harvesting equipment. The Company also purchases and markets replacement parts and other accessories for the forestry market, including small chain saw engine replacement parts, safety equipment and clothing, lubricants, maintenance tools, hand tools, and other accessories used in forestry applications. The Company operates a business in the specialized concrete cutting and finishing market. These products are sold primarily under the ICS brand. The principal product is a diamond-segmented chain, which is used on gasoline and hydraulic powered concrete cutting saws and equipment.     Historically the stock prices of Deere (DE) and other agricultural equipment firms and retailers like Case-New Holland (CNH), Titan Machinery (TITN), AGCO (AGCO), Tractor Supply (TSCO), Valmont (VAL), and Lindsay (LNN) have tended to closely track the price of corn. When corn prices go up, farmers tend to make more money, and they spend that money on new equipment from Deere and other firms. This relationship is especially strong for Deere and Corn, but it holds true for all of the stocks above to some extent. (Correlation coefficients between all of the stock prices above and corn are statistically significant to at least the 5% level, see my blog here for more details.)
